Nules is the home of a variety of Clementine called Clemenules that has its origins in the nineteenth Century and it is exported all over the world.
There is a variety of Clementine, which was created in Nules and is nowadays one of the most important Clementines in the export market due to...its high quality and the quantity exported.
This variety is called Clemenules, it is also called clementina de Nules, Nulesina o Nulera. In the past, it was also called clementina "grossa" (fat) due to its big size.
Clemennules was originated by spontaneous mutation of a fine Clementine tree in an orchard situated next to a place in town called Calvari in 1953. Due to the desire to improve the taste and business quality of the fruit, which has always distinguished farmers in Nules, the new variety of Clementine started gradually to increase, in order to verify their characteristics and possible interest.
As it became well adapted and produced, and responded as it was expected, its expansion on a larger scale began throughout the citrus area, reaching now a prominent place in the business.
This variety has spread the most along la Plana (region in Castellon), occupying an important place within the varieties of the Clementine?s group.
This Clementine has taken the name of Nules to different countries around the world, stating the fruit of its region and people.
The citizens of Nules, represented in the City Council, have been able to appreciate and recognize the importance of the Clemenules, which devotes a square with its name, where it is located a monument with a cast replica of the orange tree that produced the variety for the first time. Furthermore, every year, the Congress of citrus and the Feast of CLEMENULES takes place in Nules, between the months of March and April.
